Privacy Policy
Last updated: 8 July 2026
Read60 ("we", "us", "our") provides a news summary application for Android and iOS (the "App") and this website. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. Our guiding principle is simple: we collect as little as possible.
1. Information we collect
You can read the news in Read60 without creating an account. If you choose to create one, it unlocks syncing and a personalised feed — here is everything we collect in each case:
- Account information (optional). If you create an account, we collect the details you provide at sign-up — such as your name, email address, and password (stored in hashed form) — so you can sign in and keep your preferences across devices.
- Reading preferences. Your chosen categories, saved stories, and reading mode. Without an account these stay on your device only. With an account, they are also stored on our servers so we can sync them across your devices and show you more of the news you care about.
- Push notification token. If you enable notifications, Firebase Cloud Messaging (a Google service) assigns your device an anonymous token so we can deliver news alerts. The token identifies the device installation, not you personally.
- Device and diagnostic data. Basic technical information (device model, operating system version, app version, crash reports) may be collected to keep the App working reliably.
- Website logs. Our website host records standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited) for security and performance purposes.
2. How we use information
- To deliver news content and push notifications you have opted into.
- To personalise your feed: if you are signed in, we use your category choices, saved stories, and reading activity to surface more of the stories you care about. Personalisation is based only on how you use Read60 — we do not buy or import data about you from anywhere else.
- To operate your account: signing you in, syncing preferences across devices, and responding to support requests.
- To fix crashes, diagnose problems, and improve the App.
- To understand, in aggregate, which categories and stories are read most.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your data for third-party advertising.
3. Third-party services
Read60 relies on a small number of service providers who process data on our behalf:
- Google Firebase (push notifications, crash reporting) — subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
- Hosting and infrastructure providers that serve our content and store our news database.
News cards link to original articles at their source publishers. Once you tap through to a publisher's site, that publisher's own privacy policy applies.
4. Data retention
Account information and server-stored preferences are retained while your account is active and deleted when you delete your account. Push tokens are retained while notifications are enabled and are deleted or become inactive when you disable notifications or uninstall the App. Diagnostic data is retained only as long as needed for troubleshooting. Preferences stored on your device are removed when you uninstall the App.
5. Your choices and rights
- You can use Read60 without an account — personalisation and sync simply won't apply.
- You can update your preferences at any time, and delete your account (along with the preferences stored on our servers) from the App's settings or by contacting us.
- You can disable push notifications at any time in the App or in your device settings.
- You can clear locally stored preferences by clearing the App's data or uninstalling it.
- Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold. Contact us and we will honour applicable requests.
6. Children
Read60 is a general-audience news product and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
7. Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect the limited data we handle, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) between the App, our servers, and this website.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the product evolves. We will post the revised version here and update the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will be highlighted in the App.
